Writer's Diary/Blog

What's New

  • Star Trek: Starfleet Corps of Engineers #63 "Echoes of Coventry" will be released later this month as an e-book from Pocket Books. You can pick up a copy at Simon and Schuster's web store.

  • With the demise of iBooks, Gauntlet Dark Legacy "Paths of Fear" will not be coming out. I've gotten several e-mails from people asking about this, and wanted to post something official here. The license has reverted to Midway Games and unless a new licensor picks it up and wants me to continue writing them, I'd say our trip with Morgan, Layla, Kore and Orlando has drawn to a close.

  • I'll be attending Ravencon in Richmond, VA, April 21 through the 23rd. After that on my schedule, I'll be going to Balticon over Memorial Day Weekend in Baltimore.

  • Later on this summer, I'll be attending FantaSci at the Chesapeake, VA Public Library for a one day show, then Dragon*Con in Atlanta and Archon 30 in St. Louis. More about them as we get a little closer to the show.

  • As you may have noticed above, I have begun keeping a blog, sort of an on-line diary where I chart my progress on the various projects I have under development as well as pontificating about whatever crosses my mind. It can be found here. Feel free to stop by and comment.

  • As I get further into my journey as a novelist, I find there are more and more "unsavory" types that prey on new writers for a living. There are several very good resouces for new writers to investigate before EVER signing on the dotted line. Please check out Bewares and Background Check forum on the Absolute Write Bulletin Board (actually the entire site is pretty cool! (Highly recommended reading)), Preditors and Editors, and Writer Beware on the SFWA web site.

All of these sites are great starting places to do your due dilligance. Don't get caught up in the various scams out there. Especially vanity presses that claim to be "traditional" publishers. Sure, they don't charge you up front, but when they price a book too high for the general public to be interested, give the books minimal to no editing, make them unreturnable - just about guaranteeing they won't be placed in a brick and mortar store and give horrible discounts to retailers, they can only have one intended audience - you!

So, while they don't ask for money up front, I can almost guarantee, they'll be after you, your family and your friends to buy copies of this book. Remember, Yog's Law - "Money flows to the writer"
